Quiz #4 - Open Note

October 31st, 2008 by studioart

Today we will take our fourth open notebook quiz. Because it is open note, you MUST remain quite at all times (before, during, and after). Talking constitutes cheating. So please observe the quiz rules so that you do not get any points taken off, or get a zero for non-compliance.

  1. Remain quiet at all times (before, during, and after) UNTIL all students have finished.
  2. If you have ANY questions, SILENTLY raise your hand and patiently WAIT for Ms. Lemish to come over to you.
  3. You will receive your quiz face down. DO NOT TURN IT OVER until Ms. Lemish has told you that you can (she will wait for everyone to be quiet first).
  4. When you are finished, turn your quiz over and Ms. Lemish will come over to collect it.

When you are finished with your quiz, REMAIN SILENT. When everyone is finished we will complete whatever work is not finished from our quilt project including; your variation quilt, the analysis writing, and the class critique.

Project Critiques

October 29th, 2008 by studioart

Today we will look carefully at each other’s artwork to offer complements and constructive criticism in the form of a formal art critique. Working with your partner, look carefully at their artwork and ask them the questions on the worksheet to write down their answers and your thoughtful comments. You will then be asked to present the artwork of your partner to the rest of the class. Please remember to use the appropriate language and speak about their artwork in a thoughtful manner. Your partner will do the same for you.

Write Analysis for Project

October 28th, 2008 by studioart

Today we will write the analysis of our project. Please write thoroughly and completely as this is as important as any of your quilt designs. If you are NOT done with the last quilt design you will need to complete it in class today, but you will still be responsible for completing the analysis writing.

Also there will be afterschool tutoring with the laptops for those who are not done. IT IS STRONGLY ADVISED THAT YOU SHOW UP AS WE WILL NOT BE WORKING ON THIS PROJECT IN CLASS AFTER TODAY!

Complete Variation Quilt

October 27th, 2008 by studioart

Today we will COMPLETE our variation/multiple patterning quilt designs. REMEMBER that you must either include one of your pattern swatches (plaid or shaped pattern) in one of your 3 quilt designs (housetop, asymmetry, or variation) OR you must use one of the swatches in Illustrator that you have altered in some way. If you do NOT understand this last requirement, then please, please, please let me know during class so that I can explain it to you.

How to Create Variation Using Illustrator

Project Workday - Multiple Patterning & Variation

October 17th, 2008 by studioart

Today we will start our last quilt design in Illustrator that demonstrates how African American quilters frequently added their own personal touches through variation and combination of traditional European American block patterns. Multiple patterning is simply when more than one traditional quilt pattern is combined within one quilt design. Variation is when block patterns are rearranged (usually in an asymmetrical manner) in a way that creates a unique way of presenting the design (although its origin is still recognizable). Watch the demonstration carefully and follow along in your instructions of how to use new Illustrator tools to create various traditional block designs so that you can use them or create variations of them for your final quilt design.
